Intro to the word Microscope

I assume that if you find yourself on this page, you have received an invitation from Pete or Neil to have a go with a trial version of the Word Microscope. At this point, this tool will only work on a computer running Windows. We hope to get a Mac happy version at some point!

Press play on the video above to get a sense of what you can do with this tool. Neil Ramsden and his wife Louise have put countless hours of work into this project. I mainly jabber from the sidelines and think up new things I wish it did so that Neil and Louise have hours of new work to do!

We now feel the Word Microscope is in good enough shape that people who are working with Real Spelling and WordWorks will see this as a very useful tool to support their investigations of word structure and meaning. Individuals might like using it at home, and teachers can use it as a tool for classroom instruction as shown in the video.

We are making the current version available for free use until October 31st. Our hope is that users will share ideas for improvement with us so that we get the most user friendly version ready for commercial use. I’m very excited by what we have now. I think teachers will find that this tool really helps them and their students dive in to the investigation of words in a way that really pushes everyone’s learning forward, and does so in a way that suits the needs of the classroom.
